Understanding small business adaptation to natural hazards: A critical review

Research into small business adaptation to natural hazards is immature and poorly focussed, with too much emphasis on capacity factors little focus the motivators of adaptation. More theorisation use models would help avoid such omissions in future. There firm evidence for importance some predictors: relevant skills; perceptions response costs; building tenure; owner education; sector, size. qualitative quantitative exploration now needed identify that mediate these predictors establish reasons inconsistent findings influence hazard experience. Furthermore, other potentially important partial fragmented – example, social norms, prompting concentration clients area affected by a event. research also needs be conducted Global South, where have greatest impact socio-cultural environment differs elsewhere.
